JOHN HARRIS

In describing his style, he says, "I have always been interested in art that has a trick to it, elements of visual illusion, which make me smirk when I see them. From unbelievably three dimensional trompe-l'oil (French for "trick the eye") Baroque ceiling paintings, to the clever satire of the Surrealists, especially Magritte and Dali, I try to instill an element of humor and trickery in my work. I'm always fascinated by the way paint can be pushed around with a brush until it creates an image that we perceive to be so incredibly tangible."

A fall 2007 semester abroad in London, what he calls his "Artistic Pilgrimage," gave him the opportunity to view some of the world's most famous landmarks and museums, as well as compile a meaningful portfolio of photographs. John has participated in several school related shows, but the Art from Scratch Gallery is his first professional exhibit.
